Monte Sereno is home to one of the most exclusive Eichler communities in the South Bay Area. Consisting of only 16 homes, these mid-century beauties are all located on a small cul-de-sac known as Via Sereno just off of Winchester Boulevard. Surrounded by the area’s top-rated schools, these Eichlers are within walking distance of Los Gatos’ beautiful Vasona Park and trendy downtown shops and restaurants. Designed by Claude Oakland between 1969 and 1971, this timeframe represented a transitional period in which Oakland converted the atrium model into a skylighted gallery room, so you’ll find several rare gallery model Eichlers in this tract, such as this one we sold on
Via Sereno. Relative to fellow Eichler tracts, the Monte Sereno Eichlers offer both more living and yard space, ranging from 1900-2500 sq feet of living space and 8,000-9,000 square foot lot sizes, with easy access to the Santa Cruz Mountains and hiking trails.
In 2008, one of the Monte Sereno Eichler homes in was rebuilt as a self-proclaimed “Showcase for a green Eichler remodel”, featuring innovative building materials and practices. You can follow on the owner’s remodel blog at eichlervision.com. Vice Mayor Lana Malloy was also on hand, pointing out that the city once tried to get Via Sereno designated as a “street of historic significance,” but in Monte Sereno homes must be at least 60 years old before they’re considered historic.
